How can I be sure my viruses (Trojans, spyware, adware etc) are gone?
All my symptoms of the virus are gone, but how can I be sure that they are 100% gone from my computer? Norton says everything is fine, but people said it’s unreliable.
I didnt delete anything! NORTON ALWAYS SAID IT WAS FINE but I had symptoms and weird pop ups

run virus scan.
after you’ve deleted them, run a new scan to see
I had some of that, and no spy/virus remover would get it, had to wipe the disk, then cut out the porn sites
use avg……….its really gud to detect virus
all you can do is run manual scans and wait and see, watch carefully fro any signs, they can linger dormant for a while so do not get too confident, don’t get paranoid either if your pc starts to slow down or something, other things can cause that as well, good luck.
DO NOT USE AVG, ITS DETECTION RATE IS ABYSMAL
AVIRA OR AVAST, ALL THESE AVG HONKS GIVE ME HEMORRHOIDS!!
AND YES, NORTON IS UNRELIABLE!
it is “unreliable”? They are in business since I heard of PC’s in the 80′s. Make back ups, daily if you want, that is reliable.
The chances are it is gone, but sadly you can never be 100% sure your computer is clean. No anti virus software will find 100% of viruses/spyware some are better than others, you could try running 2 or 3 different ones and see if they find anything the others missed.
I use Norton and spybot one will often pick up something the other missed, but who knows what they both missed?? Wayne
EVERYONE should have anti-virus software on their computer. Software that can automatically update itself when you’re on line. Why? Because anti-virus software that isn’t kept up-to-date is pretty much useless. New viruses are found each and every day. A friend of mine was having problems with their computer and it was acting very strange. They asked me to look at it. One of the first things I asked was, “Do you have anti-virus software?” Oh yes they told me. “And when was the last time it was updated?, I asked. Oh, 3 years ago they told me. Long story short I had to reformat their hard drive and reinstall everything because the computer was totally infested by hundreds of viruses. So, first rule of the obvious – Have anti-virus software and keep it updated. Never open up unfamiliar e-mails and pop ups! Don’t download stuff you dont need or use!

How can you prevent viruses beyond the obvious? Well, first is to make sure you do the obvious. Have an anti-virus program and keep it updated. Next, is to take most things with a grain of salt. Trust your instincts. And when in doubt, don’t. Ask yourself, “Would Mary really have sent me an email like this?” Or “Would eBay really cancel my account over my credit card number?” Or “If this virus is so big, why do we have to warn everyone by email?” Think before you click. Before you open an email attachment or respond to an official-looking email. And when in doubt, DON’T Don’t click, don’t open, don’t respond. Just delete the email and be on your way. There was a time when an email was just an email, and when an attachment was just an attachment, and when an email from your bank was just that. Sadly, those days have gone the way of the dinosaur. Doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and work and play online, it just means that you have to be aware.
I hope this helps!
